Rhino’s runs FREE after school programs that are youth led with the assistance of staff mentorship (Visual Art, Writing, Youth Radio) that operate during the critical 3-6 pm Monday-Friday period. We are in the process of developing new program ideas! If you have any suggestions please email David Kopp at firstname.lastname@example.org!
TUESDAYS @ RHINO’S, 3-6 PM
PROGRAM DIRECTOR: Liv Mershon
Using a wide variety of art supplies provided by Rhino’s, participants are free to explore their creative expression through drawing, painting, mural making and screenprinting. Your imagination is your only limitation! Trained artists on staff will help participants explore whatever medium they are most interested in.
Rhino’s kids produce 4×8’ murals that are placed on public display in People’s Park and outside the Rhino’s building. First-timers are welcome – new mural artists are responsible for many of our beautiful murals, with help from experienced participants and staff.
Rhino’s also offers facilities and instruction in the art of screenprinting, an exciting method to transform your ideas into printable, lasting art. Create posters, t-shirts, patches and more. We also provide training in digital image preparation using industry standard design programs.

ZINE MAKING AND WRITING
WEDNESDAYS @ RHINO’S, 3-6 PM – MEETING @ 4 PM
PROGRAM DIRECTOR: Amy Oelsner
Rhino’s participants create a quarterly publication featuring news, creative writing, photography, poetry, comics, horoscopes, reviews, and editorials. All types of writing are accepted and encouraged! Along with acting as an editorial board, youth learn about magazine planning, design and distribution.
Rhino’s also offers materials and encouragement to young cartoonists and illustrators who are seeking to hone their skills, in coordination with the Rhino’s Visual Art program. We always welcomes visual submissions, and we can work with you to discover more about story planning, drafting with pen-and-ink, and more.
If you are between the ages of 13 and 18 and would like to be involved in creating a zine with us, please come in on Wednesdays from 3-6. We always order pizza and we always have fun . . .
If you have any questions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
YOUTH RADIO AND RECORDING ARTS
THURSDAYS @ RHINO’S, 3-6 PM – MEETING @ 4 PM
PROGRAM DIRECTOR: Nick Romy
The Rhino’s youth radio group plans and produces a weekly 4-hour block of live radio that is broadcast regionally Saturday evenings from 6-10 pm on WFHB (91.3/98.1 FM). Participants train on professional digital and analog editing and broadcast equipment, ultimately learning to DJ their own monthly hour-long set of their favorite music.
Radio participants also produce a themed monthly podcast that is available internationally for free download on our podcast. Youth record and edit interviews and segments, and are also challenged to think critically and contribute to group discussions about topics relevant and interesting to teenagers.
Rhino’s also has a full-service digital recording studio that is available for use to produce musical projects, with help from trained staff. Come make beats and samples, rhyme, sing or record your band.
New radio participants should plan to attend one of our weekly meetings at 4 PM on Thursday for orientation.
